How it works
- 1
Paste ingredients
One ingredient per line, straight from any recipe. Fractions like ½ and 1 1/2, and ranges like 2-3, are understood.
- 2
Pick the new size
Enter how many the recipe serves and how many you need, or choose a multiplier such as ½× or 2×.
- 3
Measure and cook
Amounts are rounded to sizes you can measure. Tiny cup amounts switch to tablespoons, and units update (1 cup becomes 2 cups).
Frequently asked questions
How do I scale a recipe up or down?
Divide the servings you need by the servings the recipe makes, then multiply every ingredient by that number. This tool does it for you: paste the ingredients, enter both serving counts, and each amount is scaled and shown as a kitchen fraction.
How do you halve 1/3 cup?
Half of 1/3 cup is 1/6 cup, which is 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons (2 2/3 tablespoons). The scaler switches small cup amounts to tablespoons automatically so you can measure them.
What does the ≈ symbol mean?
It means the exact amount fell between measuring sizes, so it was rounded to the nearest half, third, quarter, or eighth. For baking, round eggs and leavening with care, or scale by a factor that keeps them whole.
Does it work for baking?
Yes for ingredients, but pan size and baking time don't scale in a straight line. When you double a cake, use two pans or a larger pan and check for doneness early.
